Drowsy ridesharing drivers pose public safety risk, says AASM

The ridesharing industry is facing a nationwide challenge of sleep deprivation among its drivers. Illinois residents should know that these workers often work during extended periods of wakefulness, resulting in drowsiness behind the wheel. AAA estimates that an average of 328,000 crashes every year in the U.S. involve a drowsy driver. About 109,000 crashes result in injuries, and 6,400 in death.

Stimulants may pose threat to roadway safety

Illinois motorists may be concerned about the threat of truck crashes, which can be especially deadly for pedestrians, cyclists and passenger vehicles. The massive size and weight of large trucks can be overwhelming to smaller vehicles in a collision. In 2016 alone, 3,986 people lost their lives in trucking accidents while many thousands more were injured, often severely.
